Your Procedure

DO NOT EAT OR DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT THE NIGHT BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE (this includes water, candy, and chewing gum). Your procedure will be postponed if you ignore this precaution. The Preoperative nurse will inform you of what medication is safe to take the morning of surgery.
Bathe or shower on the morning of your procedure to minimize the risk of infection. Please do not use body lotion or powder the morning of YOUR PROCEDURE. YOU MAY WEAR DEODORANT.
Brush your teeth on the morning of your procedure, but DO NOT SWALLOW ANY WATER.
DO NOT consume alcohol 24 hours prior to your procedure. Refrain from smoking 12 hours prior to your procedure. These substances can cause you to have adverse reactions to anesthesia and medication.
Wear loose comfortable clothing and low-heeled shoes. If you are having a procedure involving your upper body you may want to wear a shirt which buttons or zips up. If you are having a procedure involving your lower body, you may want to wear shorts/dress/skirt.
Leave jewelry and valuables at home. Remove all body piercings, make-up and false fingernails before arrival for your procedure.
Stop herbal medications 7 days; Plavix or Coumadin 5-7 days; ASA (aspirin) and NSAIDS (anti-inflammatories) 2-3 days prior to your procedure. These medications will thin your blood and may cause excessive bleeding during your procedure.
Report any health changes to your surgeon immediately; even if the changes seem minor, such as fever, cough, rash, or a cold. Notify your physician if there is a possibility that you are pregnant.
Bring health insurance card, photo I.D. (State I.D., driver’s license, or passport), and payment with you the day of your procedure. You should have received a call from our business office concerning your estimated charges. If you have not received a call about your financial responsibility, call our office at 281-404-3280.
Arrange for a responsible adult to drive you home and stay with you for the first 24 hours following your procedure. The effects of anesthesia and sedation will make you drowsy for this period of time. YOU CAN NOT DRIVE HOME AFTER RECEIVING ANESTHESIA.
